Well, we’ve had quite the week up here in Scotland with our first big snowfall of the season, and another due in the next couple of days. Our first shoot of the winter season (more on that down below) could not have been blessed with finer conditions: bitterly cold but with a warming glow from the low sun, and just enough drifting snow flurries to create some atmosphere without overwhelming. We’ve had a very busy November, so some big items to catch up on in this quarter’s update.
‘Finding Bo’ Gets A Trailer, Two Premieres and an Award
Our recently-announced documentary ‘Finding Bo’ received its world premiere at the recent Montrose Land x Sea Festival on September 14th, where we’re delighted to say it won the award for Best Scottish Film. Following this, the film received its English premiere last weekend at Kendal Mountain Festival. We can’t wait to bring ‘Finding Bo’ to more screens across the UK over the next year!
In case you missed the announcement, ‘Finding Bo’ is a short documentary film that tells the story of how Karen found herself as a photographer in the Scottish Highlands, and how she fell in love with the mountain hare.

‘Hardangerfolk’ Releases Online (and more)
Last year’s blockbuster adventure film ‘Hardangerfolk’ ended its festival run with a ‘Best Documentary’ award at the HB Film Festival right near home in Paisley last month. Following that, we have decided to release the film online for all to watch – for free! You can view ‘Hardangerfolk’ now in its entirety by heading over to our Vimeo page.
‘Hardangerfolk’ tells the story of the 11 Norwegian resistance member who, in the winter of early 1943, crossed the Hardangervidda to put a stop to the creation of an atomic bomb, in what has become one of history’s most astounding and beloved adventure tales. Now, exactly 80 years after the event, an international expeditionary team retrace their footsteps, from the assault on the Rjukan valley, across Europe’s highest and wildest plateau, and over the Swedish border hundreds of kilometres away.

‘All Downhill’ Teaser and Screenings
And just when you thought we couldn’t release enough films for one season, we have one more! ‘It’s All Downhill From Here’ received its premiere (also) at Kendal Mountain Festival, with introductions to packed audiences by filmmakers Rachel and Gregor.
Following runners Trina and Gloria as they take to the mountains of the Italian alps, ‘It’s All Downhill From Here’ is a film which explores belonging and ageing in sport, and what growth and connection truly mean. We see Trina and Gloria’s close bond, and their joy in hiking and running through some of Europe’s most spectacular landscapes, through their own eyes.

…And a New Environmental Journey
As we teased up top, last week the Scotica team were once again up in their beloved Highlands, filming a documentary for new clients Wetlands International and Caledonian Climate all about peat – what it is, why it’s so cool, and why the entire world depends on us saving it. We’ll have more information about the film in the coming weeks – so, as always, keep an eye on our channels for the latest Scotica news!
